Get your priorities right, Nato…………now!

“NATO planes today (Thursday) carried out three air strikes around the Libyan capital Tripoli on Thursday”  a NATO official said.

“As well as a surface-to-air missile battery in the south of the city, we  also hit two more targets closer to the city centre.”

But, Nato needs to get its priorities right:

They want to flatten the outskirts of Misrata, to deploy the troops on foot and invade the city,” said one of the witnesses, a doctor whose first name was Ayman. He added that a ship sent to evacuate 165 critically injured people to Tunisia had been scheduled to arrive Thursday morning at Misrata’s port, and he believed the government had shelled the port to interfere with the humanitarian aid.

Around 6000 people were waiting to be evacuated from the beleaguered Libyan city of Misurata, according to estimates by the United Nations.

Two-thirds of those seeking to depart are Egyptians, said the International Organization for Migration, adding that the rest include Nigerians, Bangladeshis, Ghanaians, Sudanese and citizens of Niger.

People in Misurata, besieged by forces loyal to the Libyan government, have been living for six weeks in an increasingly hopeless situation, with little food or water, the IOM stated.

An ship containing 400 tonnes of food and other aid including medical supplies was on its way to the city, the IOM said, stating that the ship would only be able to carry around 800 people.

‘We should not be put in a position of deciding who we save when so many people are in an appalling situation everywhere,’ IOM spokesman Fernando Calado said.
